Paul Newman Dies at 83

Academy Award winning acting legend Paul Newman has died. Newman died yesterday at his home in Westport, Connecticut after a long battle with cancer. Newman's career in show business included far too many films to list, but stand-outs include The Sting, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Long Hot Summer, and his Oscar winning role in The Color of Money.

Newman's career wasn't limited to the big screen. He was a successful race car driver and founder of Newman's Own food company.

Newman's biggest success may have been personal, not professional. His marriage to actress Joanne Woodward, herself an Oscar winner in her own right, began fifty years ago in January 1958.

Emmy News

Basic Cable was the big winner at the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night. AMC's Mad Men made history as the first basic cable show to win the Best Drama award. NBC's 30 Rock took top honors for Best Comedy. Rock's Tina Fey was named Best Actress in a comedy while co-star Alec Baldwin grabbed the statue for Best Actor in a Comedy. The Best Actress in a Drama went to Glenn Close for FX's Damages. In a surprise, Bryan Cranston, long overlooked from Malcolm in the Middle, took the Best Actor in a Drama award for AMC's Breaking Bad. The loser of the night was the Emmy telecast itself: it was trounced in the ratings by football on NBC.
